[ Color her fucking startled, Atem. So much so that she nearly drops her damned phone. She blinks, struggling to catch the aforementioned device before it bites the dust on the floor, arching a brow.
How the hell did he do that? It's probably more important to know how he knows she's Panther... then again, he already knows about Carmen, so... ]
Hey! Aha... [ She glances around nervously, making sure Noiz isn't around, before she glances back over towards Atem. ] Honestly? I'm not sure. I'm kinda flying by the seat of my pants on this one. There has to be a systematic way of taking Lucifer's people out before we get to him. The more I've heard from other people, the more I'm realizing that he's not our main enemy, and he's no longer on my radar of targets. For now, at least.
[A good policy to ensure there are no stray Noiz in earshot.
He holds his hips in thought. No plan, huh? But it make sense that Lucifer's not on the radar. The guy... After the whole spear thing, Atem can see exactly how little control Lucifer has over this realm. It's not a good position to be in.]
Then I can help talk strategy. [It's obvious in how he speaks that he considers her the leader of this... whatever they're going to call it.] You mentioned you had information? Have any others reached out?
[ She's still pondering how the fuck he managed to get in here while simultaneously realizing he'd make a great Phantom Thief when he speaks again, and she scoots over in her seat and pats the spot next to her, offering him a place to sit and chill. ]
I'd imagine you're very good at strategy! [ Being a Pharaoh and all, and also... she's pretty sure he's also a duelist, too, even if she's never seen him actually play the game. But he's friends with Yugi, so, that probably makes him a duelist. ] I do have info, and since you're here, I'm gonna just tell you -- I don't think we're done with Barbas. He's locked away, yeah, but a few months ago I was snooping and found out that Barbas was apparently looking for new sources of power to expand his lands and looking to Mammon and making deals with him. Something about helping Mammon 'expand his collection of specimens' if he got that help. Barbas is currently locked up, but I don't know if Lucifer's mansion can hold him forever. Mammon is going to be an issue.
[ She folds her hands in her lap, shrugging. ]
Some have, yeah. Most don't seem interested and seem distrustful and I don't blame them. But I don't trust them, either. I don't know how many of them are going to go running to Lucifer or Mammon...
Yes, Lucifer has his fair share of supporters... He offers just enough condolences and comforts to appear friendly. Always quick to blame his father or someone else.
[Atem works at his jaw.]
So Barbas and Mammon conspired behind Lucifer's back to expand their influence. That begs the question... Why? What do they stand to gain? I believe we already know Mammon's goals. Barbas though...
To be fair, his father is kind of a dick, and the real reason we're here. But we can't get to Him until we get through Lucifer's people, and maybe Lucifer himself if he proves to be an annoyance.
[ She nods at him, chewing on her lower lip for a moment. ]
Yeah. The only thing they can gain down here is power and depravity, both of which this place is already endlessly full of. But mostly power, I'd imagine. Unless they've worked some sort of deal out with God himself... but there's no way to prove that.
They did. They're another faction we're gonna have to keep an eye on. There's so many people and deities in the way... and we don't even know how many members are part of the Veiled Order, let alone who is in charge of it.
[ She sits back in her seat, frowning. ]
It's all so confusing. I'm not even sure who we should go after first -- my heart says take a shot at Mammon because he's big and bad and I'd like to gauge the Veiled Order's reaction to it. But I also know that's not the right call to make, either. I know that we're going to have to continue laying low and gathering information, that striking prematurely is the wrong thing to do... it's frustrating.
Yes. Begs another question. Why are we apart of it? What was so important about brainwashing so many people and keeping them locked up in a fantasy world? Why did the Veiled Order prefer that when previously they were hostile?
Partner and Kaiba don't talk much about what happened there, and I think I know someone who might tell me, but she's... A handful.
[That's one way to describe Monika. He sighs.]
Unfortunately, Lucifer or whoever created this place... [He gestures openly to the hotel.] ...did so with the intention to prevent mass organization amongst sinners. Only people who gain favor with Lucifer are able to have comforts they're normally denied, so they're naturally going to game the system and avoid others that don't. Present company not excluded.
[He's the present company, since he's sporting horns and a tail. Sorry, Ann... He knows how hard she tries not to sin. With him it's nigh constant because he's stubborn.]

Compliance? Debauchery? All of the above, I'd imagine. If people are good little soldiers who don't question anything, then that makes things easier for them. As for the Veiled Order... who knows.
Yeah, no one I know really talks about what happened there other than it was a giant clusterfuck. Literally. I sorta know what it feels like, to an extent, to live in a fantasy world against your own will, so... I'm just glad we managed to free everyone.
[ She wouldn't put it past anything or anyone to have it happen again, albeit maybe a different location, a different situation... ]
Yeah... I guess that's the point of Hell. To be fair, I'm still not entirely convinced this is even actual Hell... how can a place like this exist when other people have never heard of it? Unless it's just called something different in other worlds and realms...
